Last August, while Manny and I were waiting to move into our bungalow here in Savannah, I stumbled across a virtual tour of a Craftsman home in Laurel, Mississippi that kind of blew my mind.
The house in question — a 1925 stunner — belongs to Erin and Ben Napier. I don’t know exactly what drew me so strongly to their renovation story. Don’t get me wrong; the house is #gorgeous. But I think it was the fact that these two hipsters chose to make a life in a small town in Mississippi.
At the time, I was still decompressing post-Brooklyn. I was loving the fact that we were about to move into a 1920s Craftsman of our own. And while Savannah is not exactly a small town, it feels that way much of the time. I guess I was just charmed by the thought of a young couple, much like Manny and me, committing to the kind of life I was at least sort of aiming for myself.
And then — lo and behold! — I get wind that the Napiers have gotten their own show with HGTV!
The pilot episode of Home Town premiered on Sunday, January 24th as a one-hour special following Erin and Ben as they fixed up another house in Laurel. Since then, HGTV has given the green light to the show.
Season 1 of Home Town is coming to us in 2017. In the meantime, you can check out the tour of their impeccably sweet Craftsman via Hooked on Houses and read the follow-up there about what it was like for Erin and Ben to film the HGTV pilot. As the follow-up notes, Erin was discovered after an HGTV exec started following her fantastic Instagram account!
Anybody else excited to watch?!
